F.lli Alinari

F.LLI ALINARI

In 1852 Leopoldo Alinari, with his brothers Giuseppe and Romualdo, founded the “F.lli Alinari” photographic workshop. They became specialized in the photographic documentation of art and landscape, in portraying the Florentine and Italian society within which they operated and the cultural and artistic environment that they had to deal with, creating a real ‘Alinari style’. The cultural objectives and the working methods of the Florentine studio became a distinctive mark and were imitated throughout Europe. Photography is therefore here seen as a tool that bears witness to the history of a society and the revolutionary cultural changes that bridged two centuries. The Alinari photographs are contact printed or enlarged from the original glassplate negatives. This permits images of remarkable sharpness in any size.
